Make a Boob at Solborg Folkehøgskole

The first Make a Boob workshop of the year took place at Solborg Folkehøgskole in Stavanger.
It’s very interesting to visit different kinds of groups from all ages and situations. The young ladies were sweet and fun and although their main focus is on making garments, they seemed to enjoy the handwork very much.

I brought 15 beautiful decorated boobs home. Look at all those details!

Make a Boob at Fellesforeningen for kreftrammede

The last workshop I did in 2011 was at November 8th at a cancer patient group. I forgot to ask if it was ok for me to take pictures of them at work, so I cannot do so.

The boobs, however, can freely be shared with you.

October 18th workshop

The second day-time workshop I was prepared to be alone, but I started setting up anyway in case someone would show up. I know daytime is difficult for many people. By the time I had unpacked my little suitcase (better to roll than carry your stash!) I was starting to feel unwell. In hindsight I am quite happy that I did not pass anything onto others.

I had to take a picture on this inspirational page on the wall, with sayings about light and sunshine like “With every loving thought we can catch a ray of sunshine for our heart”, “Those who appreciate little moments of happiness, collect sunshine for the difficult days in life” and “The sun often shines where you least expect it.” Great advice indeed!

I left early though, and made a few boobs resting comfortably on my couch.

Unfortunately I had to cancel the last of the scheduled workshops due to illness.

October 12-13 boobs

Boobs decorated at the workshops on the 12th and 13th of October. The pictures were taken the same day and unfortunately not marked with which day they are from - although I'm confident the first 3 pictures are from the first workshop.

Make a Boob at a group meeting

I was invited to my mother in law’s group meeting the very next day (October 13th) and spent a wonderful evening with her group decorating boobs.

Such fun ladies!

Make a Boob at the Breast cancer association

The next workshop at October 12 was more successful and I had a great time with these five ladies.

They sure made some brilliant boobs. I have set them aside to include them in the quilt that is going to the local Breast cancer association.

It’s about time I’d update the blog with pictures from last fall. I am so sorry about the delay; please know that the project is still going on with workshops set up for April and the backgrounds are being quilted!

The workshop on October 4th was very quiet as I was alone. I had set up a few dates for the members of the Breast cancer organization to choose from, and there was one person who did sign up for this date. You know how it is, things happens, you don’t make it to a meeting, that’s ok.

As I started spreading my stuff out on the table I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to tidy up the bling containers. What a mess!

I’m using a white quilted background and a few boobs to show how they will be assembled. They will be gorgeous with all the different colours and bling!

Liz of Kaktus Quilts has started quilting the backgrounds on her longarm machine. The order was solid light backgrounds and matching threads as I don’t want them to compete with the boobs. Other than that – anything goes quilting wise. When it comes to sizes, I have given approx measurements, keeping in mind that they will hang different places. I’m thinking appropriate size for wall hangings would be approx 30”*40”. Tall skinny ones would work well too as they can easily be hung together.

Make a Boob at Rogaland Quiltelag, Part 2

After doing a few workshops I’m getting better at setting up my Make a Boob stash;

knowing what goes where does help.

The content of the ribbon basket was a bit tangled

and the bead boxes a bit of a mess when I set up

and even worse when I packed everything up.

This was my second workshop at my guild, Rogaland Quiltelag. We were not that many at the meeting

but all these lovely boobs got decorated for the project.
